Kim Hyo-yeon (born September 22, 1989), referred to as Hyoyeon or DJ Hyo, is a South Korean singer, dancer, DJ, and television personality. She debuted as a member of the girl group Girls’ Generation in August 2007, which went on to become one of the best-selling artists in South Korea and one of the most popular K-pop groups worldwide. She has since participated in other SM Entertainment projects, including Girls’ Generation-Oh!GG and Got the Beat. Since 2016, she has also released singles as a solo artist. She is most recognized for her role as a member of the South Korean girl group Girls’ Generation. She worked with Taeyeon, Yoona, Tiffany, Yuri, Sunny, Seohyun, Sooyoung, and Jessica until 2015, after which she went solo. She was born in Incheon, South Korea. She was in a two year long relationship with writer Kim Jun Hyung. She began dancing classes in elementary school and supplemented them with time spent at a local hip hop school. At age eleven she successfully auditioned with S.M. Entertainment and was put with several smaller groups before joining Girls’ Generation. She was signed to S.M. Entertainment, the same South Korean label that brought out Lee Donghae and the immensely popular boy band Super Junior.
